This route uses the Googik Track and shared paths to ride to the Port Macquarie CBD almost entirely off-road. It’s longer than going direct, but a lot safer than braving Lake Road or the Oxley Highway. Click here for a detailed description.
Start: Charles Sturt University campus
Finish: Port Macquarie CBD
Distance: 8 Km
Travel time: 30 minutes
Route surface: 40% gravel, 60% sealed
Starting on Major Innes Road, turn left towards Saint Columba Anglican School (SCAS) and follow the path. At the roundabout, turn left onto Braeroy Dr, then immediate left onto Kyla Cres. Approximately 200 m along Kyla Cres, you will see a driveway to the left which leads into a car park. Take this driveway and continue through the car park over the hill. Once over the hill, the track becomes dirt and can be washed out at times to caution is advised. Keep going down the hill and you will come to a gate that leads to the Googik Track. Continue straight until you reach a four way intersection.
This is the Boundary Trail. Turn left here and follow the track until you reach Lake Rd.
As you come out to Lake Road the path turns right taking you to the lights where you can cross to the shared path along Ocean Drive. This shared path will take you along Ocean Drive to Kooloonbung Crescent which links up to the shared path that follows Kooloonbung Creek. From here it’s on to the shared path along Gordon Street to the Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park. A sharp right turn into the park puts you onto another path which you follow towards the creek. You then curve around right following the path and end up going under Gordon Street using the underpass.
If you continue along this path it will eventually lead to Town Green. Along the way you’ll experience another new underpass under Buller Street and pass by the newly refurbished wharf area. From here the path narrows somewhat as it follows the Hastings River to its mouth.
Please remember to be mindful of pedestrians at all times. It is considered a courtesy to give them space, slow down and sound your bell as you approach. Above all, enjoy!
