Here’s a nice example of the power of our advocacy: the extension to the Googik Track. BBB had been liaising with National Parks and ran a campaign to gather community support for their proposed extension of the Googik. That is such a beautiful trail through the paperbark wetlands but starts and ends in busy suburbia. National Parks want to extend it through to Lake Cathie so we can better appreciate our natural jewel. Council seems committed to linking it to safe walking and cycling networks. Hopefully, we will be better able to enjoy an extended family bush ride, commute more safely along this corridor or just sit and contemplate the wild-life. Nobody could claim our area to be a cycle-tourism destination at present but maybe we will soon have enough such draw cards to reach that critical mass!
Our wonderful members made individual submissions to Parks & Wildlife and we ran a social media campaign to get others to do likewise. We also made a submission on behalf of BBB. All together they received around 300 submissions, most of them supporting the Googik extension. Now we must await a response from the NSW Government.
